What is RSS?

What is an RSS reader?

Wouldn’t it be great if you could just get all the headlines and links to the most current stories and articles from all your favorite websites and blogs in one place?

Well now you can, and it is called RSS reader.

It is a way online for you to get a quick list of the latest headlines from all your favorite websites and blogs all in one place.

Suppose you have 30 sites and blogs that you like to visit regularly. Going to visit each one everyday could take you hours. With RSS, you can “subscribe” to a website or blog, and get “fed” all the new headlines in one place, and see what’s going on in minutes instead of hours. It’s not only a great time saver but a terrific convenience. You can click directly to the articles and stories that interest you after reading the headline. And if you ever want to unsubscribe, it is usually just 1 click to remove that site from your list.

An RSS Reader gathers all the headlines from all the websites and blogs you have subscribed to, and it is the place you go to check for new stories or articles sent from the blogs you selected. Nothing is ever sent to by email.

Subscribing to RSS feeds

To “subscribe” to a website or blog’s RSS feed simply means that you are telling that website or blog, “Yes,  please send me your story headlines.” Instead of getting a newsletter or email, you will get a list of headlines sent to your RSS reader. If the headline looks interesting to you, just click on the headline and you’ll be sent to the whole story.

In order to subscribe to a website or blog’s RSS, all you have to do is click on an RSS icon like one of those shown below.
